Mark Bouw Group is a Management Consulting Company mainly focussed on Healthcare, Consumer products and Advanced Technology.

Basically, anyone can walk through the door and ask Mark or his team for assistance in writing strategy and implementing it.

The strength in Mark Bouw Group is the ability to innovate their client’s businesses. Such an example is Mark helping his client’s access over 800 plus Government grants to support their individual road to innovation.

What Factors Influenced You to Start Mark Bouw Group?

Mark has a passion for health having initially done a Bachelor of Nursing & Business, focused on assisting Australian businesses to develop and implement ecosystem-wide innovation for competitive advantage. He believes that health and medical technology innovation is changing the world at a rapid pace and if everyone can change at the same pace, many more people globally can have a better quality of life.

His goal is to work with businesses to drive growth, optimise operational excellence and mitigate risk with a focus on healthcare, consumer and technology industries.

He works nationally to help grow the number of organ and tissue donors to allow for life changing surgery as a director of the NFP, Australian Tissue Donation Network. Their work has seen expansion into the donation of placenta’s, bone marrow, hips and allowing the wishes of deceased donors to ensure they can change the lives of Australians they may have never known.

What Factors Affect Your Success?

Following his undergraduate degrees, Mark has since done extensive ongoing learning to ensure he is well equipped to assist businesses. He has an MBA from the University of Sydney, Stanford University and, also attended the London School of Economics and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore amongst his achievements.

  • He believes that to be successful, you firstly have to have a customer and then deliver to the customer’s expectation. He measures customer outcomes by their willingness to recommend Mark Bouw Group to their networks.

  • He seeks out the best possible people to work with him that are far better than him. Mark feels it is important his team go home at the end of each day feeling valued…they are his everything.

  • Each job is a job…don’t be precious.

  • Cash is king…money in the bank. The success is measured by recurring revenue.

  • Never gives up.

  • Finally, Mark does pro bono lecturing at Stanford Uni which is in Silicon Valley where as he points out, 50% of the US money is invested and 25% globally. And of course, the successful businesses which began there such as Apple, Google, Uber, Tesla, LinkedIn and Twitter.

What challenges face you?

  • Our geographic location…Melbourne is a long way from the rest of the world.

  • How Australian businesses perceive Australian businesses compared to offshore.

  • Australia has a very, very onerous taxation system

  • Australia is a small economy.

Opportunities

Mark is passionate that the opportunities are far bigger than the challenges. He has a real belief in our Millennials stating that they are very skilled and too often under estimated. Unlike many others, Mark believes this generation to be frugal, socially conscious and that we need to allow this generation to have a planet in a better shape than we inherited it.

He believes we’re not giving our children opportunities to be better, and if they’re not better, we as a society aren’t going to be better.

Why Support Marcellin?

It is important to Mark that he supports the idea of leaving a legacy. He actually speaks all over the world and specifically lectures at Stanford University and wants to support our Marcellin boys into thinking about seizing the moment. By forging links and maintaining ties with the Business Network the boys gain access to the knowledge and experience of many mentors.

He would like to see the boys seize the moment and ask themselves questions while they are still studying such as “Why can’t I have a business?” “I want to be an entrepreneur…how do I go about it?” He believes it is totally possible that anyone can finish Uni or Tafe with no HECS debt and even a house deposit if they take their chances.

Mark is also keen that his stepson sees him being involved and invested in his time here.

And finally, a few significant thought provokers:

Mark sees an immaturity in our Melbourne culture of valuing what school you went to rather than what you’ve done.

He feels that schools need to create an environment of safe adversity as that is what makes people successful. If you don’t face adversity, you can’t know or achieve success. Adversity creates champions and he will always look at how someone has dealt with tough situations and how/if they bounce back.
