Business Network Evening

The Business Network ran a very successful evening on Wednesday May 18.  Numbers were smaller than anticipated, but in hindsight, a big positive for those who attended, as there was a real 'buzz' in the air, and a lot of serious and very useful networking taking place.

The theme of this event was:

RETURNING TO WORK, DEALING WITH CHANGE AND/OR MAKING A CAREER CHANGE/HIRING INITIATIVES

We had two wonderful guest speakers.

Amanda Ferguson is a Mum of a current Year 7 student at the school and has experienced more than her fair share of challenges over the years.  Amanda spoke with great courage of her life, and inspired everyone in the room with her positive attitude, goals and values. For someone new to the public speaking gig, she acquitted herself very well and had the audience totally engaged.

Raelene Campbell runs her own small business called CareerTake2.                 Raelene herself implemented a change to her own career, leaving a counselling job in the higher education sector to set up her own small business.  She has steadily grown her consulting business whereby she assists individuals assess their goals, values and attributes  and then supports them to work toward a satisfying career. Raelene works with many different clients and market segments, including corporate, government, education and manufacturing sectors.

Raelene also proved to be a thoroughly engaging and interesting speaker, and we would have to say that everyone attending walked away with a value add to their lives.  Raelene was very generous with her advice, and because of the smaller group, there was lots of interaction.

Employers and employees alike were all engaged and felt that the information Raelene presented was very useful.  We had employers who will use new found hints in sourcing employees, and employees who will hopefully have more success in sourcing that right career.

Throughout the night the attendees were able to snack on delicious canapes and enjoy a few drinks from the bar.

The Business Network would like to thank Amanda and Raelene for their time and inspiration they provided.  We look forward to our next event and the chances it will bring to those participating. (see Events page)
